What is Inclusion?
Inclusion is not only an attitude but an approach to ensure that anyone, regardless of their race, gender, disability, medical or other needs are given equal access to opportunities.
•According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 49.7 million Americans have a disability, which includes people of all ages
•About two-thirds of these individuals have a severe disability
•People with disabilities represent all races, colors and creeds
Inclusion benefits all: a member serving with a disability, their team members, and those being directly served. Inclusion has the opportunity to erase misconceptions and raise awareness that the focus should be on the abilities and not the disability. The Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism is committed to ensuring inclusion in our national and state service programs.
Programs receive training in how to provide reasonable accommodations to members with disabilities, and a fund exists to pay for reasonable accommodations if needed.
