Volunteer Reception Centers are set up following major disasters to place volunteers that show up wanting to help. This video shows a volunteer reception center simulation to practice and work out any problems. It was held in Columbia, Missouri.

The Volunteer Reception Center located on campus of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, MO is being run by AmeriCorps St. Louis and over one hundred volunteers.  Over 11,000 volunteers to date have been received and deployed from the center.  FEMA works with many voluntary groups following a disaster.
